Department of Reading and Literacy

The Department of Reading and Literacy offers coursework in literacy, as well as programs leading to endorsement for the Reading Specialist, the Reading Teacher, and the Reading Teacher with ESL. The coursework leading to Reading Specialist endorsement on the Illinois Professional Educator License is completed in a program of study that results in a Master of Arts degree. Endorsements for the Reading Teacher and Reading Teacher with ESL may be completed without a degree or within a Master of Education degree. This department also offers reading coursework required for licensure for administrators and other school personnel, and literacy coursework for educators' personal professional development.
