21-203 Spanish for Heritage Speakers 1
A language maintenance and development course intended for bilingual students who grew up in a Spanish-speaking home and speak or understand the language to some extent, but have not had prior instruction in the Spanish language and want to improve their language skills through formal study. The course focuses on vocabulary development, literacy skills, grammar, reading and writing, using short stories and other professional publications as texts to examine. The course includes consideration of the relationship between language and culture. Students discuss, write reports, and give oral presentations in Spanish on the stories they have read and analyzed. This course does not fulfill the General Education requirement for Humanities.

Restricted to heritage speakers of Spanish. Prior approval of the Director of the Foreign Language Program is required.
