Ethnic and Cultural Studies Minor

The Ethnic and Cultural Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program within the College of Arts and Sciences that provides opportunities for the study of histories and cultures of various ethnic groups. This minor allows the student, in cooperation with the Ethnic and Cultural Studies advisor, to design a minor which is broad in scope. This minor is designed to encourage the examination of the rich traditions, cultural expressions, and historical experiences, as well as social and economic struggles and triumphs of various ethnic communities. The minor includes social and behavioral science courses, humanities courses, and social work and communications courses. The minor provides a framework for the systematic understanding of the heritage of many peoples, the many contemporary issues facing ethnic groups today, the varied and significant roles played by ethnic groups in U.S. society, and the contributions of ethnic groups in the U. S. and around the world. All students interested are encouraged to consider taking this minor. One foreign language course may be applied to this minor.

II. Electives in Ethnic Studies (18)

Select an additional 18 credit hours from a variety of Ethnic Studies courses and workshops. The specific program of study is developed with the advice and consent of the chair of the Sociology Department or the Director of the Ethnic and Cultural Studies Program. Please refer to the University Course Schedule for specific offerings each semester.

III. Two courses in the minor must be upper-division courses (30 or 400 level).
