Secondary Education in Teaching Theology / Minor
Individuals seeking the skills and knowledge to teach Theology, grades 6-12, in the Catholic school tradition, should enroll in a major in Theology and a minor in Secondary Education through the Department of Secondary Education in the College of Education. This minor will provide candidates the pedagogical knowledge, clinical practice and teaching skills needed to become a successful teacher of Theology. Candidates will be required to student teach for eight (8) weeks in their final semester and complete two field experiences in order to earn the minor.
Program Entry Requirements:
- Major in Theology
- GPA average of 2.75
- Recommendation from the Department of Theology, plus one additional recommendation
- Interview with the Director of Advising, College of Education
College of Education Required Coursework:
Candidates will not earn an Illinois State Board Approved Educator License unless they are also enrolled an approved content area. The College of Education offers Illinois Licensure in grades 9 -12 in English/Language Arts, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, History, or Psychology.
Candidates seeking Illinois State Educator Licensure must also complete the appropriate Special Methods class and the following two classes:
